Baseball America ReviewBaseball fans who have a sense of history for the game will want to add "Baseball America" to their list of baseball books to read. Author Donald Honig has written a number of books about the sport's history - many devoted to just certain eras. 20s' to the 40's, etc. This book covers as much of the history of the game as it can in 300+ pages. I really enjoyed Honig's writing style. He's descriptive, opinionated, literate, and has a great way of drawing the reader into place with the book's characters.
As far as the "characters" are concerned, all the greats are here. Starting with baseball's pioneers: McGraw, Wagner, Big Train Johnson, Cobb, Ruth, Gehrig, Teddy Baseball, and all the way to the eighties with Mr. October, Reggie Jackson. Honig pays respect to the game's giants without genuflecting to them. Pretty refreshing, actually.
As fun to read as it is informative, "Baseball America" is a treat that shouldn't be missed by fans of the game.Baseball America Overview
