See Jane Score ReviewThis is my first Rachel Gibson book and I just loved it! Fast, funny, realistic and full of chemistry.
Aspiring journalist Jane Alcott is game to take on just about any job to gain experience and fill out her resume. She writes a "Single Girl in the City" column and she also secretly writes a steamy serial for a men's magazine. Now, she's been given the opportunity to add sports reporter to her repertoire when she's assigned to cover the Seattle Chinooks hockey team. The guys are less than enthusiastic about having her travel with the team and, boys being boys, you can imagine the hazing she has to endure! I must have laughed "Poor Jane" out loud hundreds of times! But winning over the guys is just one problem when you're a sports reporter carrying "Hockey for Dummies"!
Hunky goalie Luc Martineau initally ignores her, since he famously doesn't do interviews anyway, but he finds that he enjoys annoying and sparring with her. She may be short, but she's spunky, tough and can talk trash with the best of them! Luc's had a checkered past that he'd like to forget and he is trying very hard to put his "bad boy" image behind him. And now he has become responsible for a 16 year old sister he barely knows. The last thing he needs is some reporter snooping around.
The verbal sparks soon turn to a sexual attraction that neither really wants. His life is so crazy with career pressure, his awkward, difficult relationship with his sister, not to mention that Jane is hardly his type - short, small chested and smart are not usually qualities he looks for, and yes, he knows what that says "aboot" him! And Jane's bad boy radar is working over time. The last thing she wants is to be seduced then dumped or worse have her heart broken by a jock who normally dates empty-headed Barbie Dolls. Hormones being what they are, though these two wind up together.
I won't go into more, but suffice it to say that complications arise and Luc's trust in Jane is threatened. Personally, I think Luc let her off a little too easily, but that's how love is, I suppose.
A terrific read, highly recommended! Rachel Gibson along with Julie Ortolon are contemporary authors converting this formerly historicals-only reader!See Jane Score Overview

Play Dirty: A Novel ReviewI have been a fan of Sandra Brown for years. Her writing style is always brilliant and amazes me. The stories she creates are so intense and deeply detailed, I am always surprised.
While I don't fault the writing, I just didn't' find myself liking the characters of Griff and Laura. Griff Burkett was a star of the Dallas Cowboys who tossed it all away by getting caught up in gambling and wound up loosing not just his job and reputation but went to prison for five years. Laura Speakman is devoted to her husband Foster, and was driving when they were in a horrific auto accident. She basically runs the company and has given up everything else in order to care for him. He has lost feeling from the waist down. Foster wants an heir. To avoid negative publicity he has convinced Laura to have a baby his way. He wants her to conceive the natural way with his a chosen substitute - Griff. The fact that Griff agreed to this made his character more appalling, and the fact that Laura also agreed, made her character equally not likeable.
I didn't feel any chemistry or real emotion between Griff and Laura. It felt very forced.
I hope her next book is better.
Play Dirty: A Novel Overview#1 New York Times bestselling author Sandra Brown is back with a gripping story of obsession and its deadly consequences. After five long years in federal prison, Griff Burkett is a free man. But the disgraced Cowboys quarterback can never return to life as he knew it before he was caught cheating. In a place where football is practically a religion, Griff committed a cardinal sin, and no one is forgiving. Foster Speakman, owner and CEO of SunSouth Airlines, and his wife, Laura, are a golden couple. Successful and wealthy, they lived a charmed life before fate cruelly intervened and denied them the one thing they wanted most -- a child. It's said that money can't buy everything. But it can buy a disgraced football player fresh out of prison and out of prospects. The job Griff agrees to do for the Speakmans demands secrecy. But he soon finds himself once again in the spotlight of suspicion. An unsolved murder comes back to haunt him in the form of his nemesis, Stanley Rodarte, who has made Griff's destruction his life's mission. While safeguarding his new enterprise, Griff must also protect those around him, especially Laura Speakman, from Rodarte's ruthlessness. Griff stands to gain the highest payoff he could ever imagine, but cashing in on it will require him to forfeit his only chance for redemption...and love. Griff is now playing a high-stakes game, and at the final whistle, one player will be dead. Play Dirty is Sandra Brown's wildest ride yet, with hairpin turns of plot all along the way. The clock is ticking down on a fallen football star, who lost everything because of the way he played the game. Now his future -- his life -- hinges on one last play.

I'll Catch You (Kimani Romance) ReviewAppearances can be deceiving. Payton Mosely looks delicate and feminine, but she can read a play-book like a pro and go head to head with the corporate giants at the negotiating table. I loved Payton. She doesn't take no for an answer and she isn't about to be intimidated by starting a new career in a male-dominated industry. Payton is all set to realize her dream of working in the professional football industry when she realizes she is falling for her hot new client. Her ONLY client. Will following her heart end her new career before it even gets started? Or will she deny her chance of happiness with Cedric to pursue her goals?
Cedric is the perfect foil for Payton. In the papers and the nightly news, he looks like your typical bad-boy football player. After a run of bad press, he is dropped by his agent and realizes none of the other agents will touch him. At first he sees Payton only as a beautiful woman (and possibly a stalker), but Payton soon convinces him she knows football inside and out. Cedric knows he has to stay on the Sabers team, and not just for his own sake. Payton is his only hope.
This was a great story with lots of sizzle and well-rounded, believable characters. I'm not a football fan, but who wouldn't drool over Cedric's gorgeous abs and athlete's body. Ms. Rochon rounds out Payton's toughness nicely by giving her a weakness for needy children and a beautiful back-story with a football coach father. Bad-boy Cedric turns out to be surprisingly sweet and gentle. The emotional intensity really heats up at the end when both Payton and Cedric have to decide who to trust and what their priorities are. A truly enjoyable read!
I'll Catch You (Kimani Romance) OverviewCedric Reeves has just been sidelined, and the bad-boy pro footballer suddenly finds himself without an agent or a prayer of getting back in the game. What he needs is someone pulling for him…someone like gorgeous go-getter Payton Mosely.A media-hounded celebrity like Cedric is just what the ambitious up-and-comer Payton needs to jump-start her career. That's why she's waging a no-holds-barred campaign to land the Saber running back as her first client. But how's the NFL sports agent supposed to keep things strictly professional when Cedric pursues her with a passion no sane woman can resist? Could this sexy bad boy be good for her after all?
