Great Jobs for English Majors ReviewEven though this book is inexpensive, I wouldn't recommend purchasing it. The job ideas are not inspiring, and not really up to date either. It barely skims the surface of what someone can do with an English major and/or writing experience, and never steps outside of the basic areas that you've probably already thought of yourself. It also doesn't give you a single idea as to how to break into any of the few jobs it mentions, if you happen to be looking for that kind of advice as well. Purchase something a little weightier and a little more expensive, it'll be worth it. This isn't.Great Jobs for English Majors Overview

The title makes it sound like there is a long list of unique and fun jobs, but more than half the book is basics about how to find and apply for a job- any job, not a great job. Great Jobs for Communications Majors ReviewHonestly if you made it to your upper division classes in communication and find the first half of this book to be of much help then you are in real trouble when you get out into the real world. This book was written with the first year college student in mind. As such me being a 3rd year student reading this book I found myself gaining no new knowledge out of the first half or so of the book. The second half which talks about graduate school choice and career paths in communication is some what useful but for this information you are better off buying one of the two following books. Graduate study for the 21 century, or Getting what you came for The smart student's guide to earning a Master's or PhD. These two books will serve you infinitely more than Great Jobs for Communication majors.
Also keep in mind when you read this book that it was written with the early 2002-2004 economic situation in mind, that means before the 9/11 crisis happened, before the financial downfall and before the arts, humanities, and media studies began having unemployment rates similar to those without a college degree. It may not help you out if you are looking for something practical to help you decide what you are going to do if you are close to graduation with a Communication degree. If you just started college and you decided on being a communication major this book may provide some insight and helpful tips on multiple subjects related to this wonderful field of study.Great Jobs for Communications Majors Overview

Eikleberry's book lays out a psychological profile of creative and unconventional people and shows us there are many more like ourselves out there. She maps out the skills and interests of creative people and shows you how they point to different career paths. There are even self-tests along the way to help you assess your skills-and the results may surprise you.
This book shows you that just because you're an "artistic" person doesn't mean you have to choose between being a starving artist or having a "normal" job. She explores the wide variety of jobs available for creative people, but is also realistic in stating that these jobs are not as plentiful as more conventional jobs.

Opportunities in Sports and Fitness Careers ReviewHeitzman's 2003 review of sports-related career opportunities is kind of like the rides in the traveling carnivals that come to small towns: it's not a great ride but it's better than nothing. Essentially, this is a resource book that has its list of other resources as its best feature. The writing is straight forward and not particularly engaging but it quickly sets out a good bit of information. It addresses nine areas, including entrepreneurship and a collection chapter of miscellaneous careers. It includes guidelines for preparing for each career type and provides numerous lists such as duties, organizations, etc. The book's primary usefulness is in identifying several potential areas and then furnishing ideas of "what to do next."
For a much more comprehensive treatment, I'd recommend The Comprehensive Guide to Careers in Sports For a more dated but more interesting look at five specific sports careers, try Careers w/o College: Sports (Careers Without College)Opportunities in Sports and Fitness Careers Overview
