Carpool Tunnel Syndrome: Motherhood As Shuttle Diplomacy ReviewWhen you are a parent you can be sure that there will be many important, serious, life-changing situations as you and your child grow together. On the other hand, if you can laugh at your own foibles, there are even more humorous events that occur on an almost daily basis. Changing your perspective so you can see the humor in everyday life is the forte of author Judy Gruen. In her book "Carpool Tunnel Syndrome" she demonstrates the ability to see humor in life with children and with deftly turns words and phrases on their ear to provide a truly funny look at motherhood. Any mother is sure to immediately recognize the situations she is addressing as she discusses things like "Why your sons play Cain and Abel while your daughters play house", "Travel turbulence", and stretch marks. A book that is hard to put down without picking it up again only minutes later, it is a highly recommended title for any mother looking to have a good laugh at life.Carpool Tunnel Syndrome: Motherhood As Shuttle Diplomacy OverviewEveryone has heard of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, that painful malady from too much repetitive motion. But how many have heard of its poor cousin, CARPOOL TUNNEL SYNDROME? The only known cure for parents driven to distraction by all their parenting duties is to read this wonderfully funny new book by Judy Gruen, a mother of four who knows there are no atheists driving over potholes when short passengers are dangling body parts out the rear window. Carpool Tunnel Syndrome takes a clever look at life with kids: the culinary creativity needed to satisfy "discriminating" palates; the politics of carpool; and the author's attempt to provide her kids with low-maintenance pet fish, only to discover the small aquatic creatures have the average life span of a souffle. Carpool Tunnel Syndrome may not absolve parents from 3:15 carpool duty, but it will make the drive a lot more fun. Take our advice: read two chapters and call us in the morning.

Another Season ReviewAs a parent of a young boy with Down Syndrome I very much enjoyed this book and recomend it to any new parent. It made me laugh, it made me cry and it opened my eyes to see how far the world has come with accepting people with disabilities. And just to know that there are parents before me who struggled with their child just as I struggle with mine and they too learned to live in a whole new world. And celebrated every little accomplishment just as we do with our son.Another Season Overview

I'm Going to College---Not You: Surviving the College Search with Your Child ReviewI gradually became a stressed out and nervous parent from this crazy college admissions process and needed some relief. This book was the perfect medicine - it really calmed me down and made me laugh out loud! Told from many points of view, these stories are just so right-on - you can really relate and get some insight from other perspectives. Daddy's Little Goalie: A Father, His Daughters, and Sports ReviewRobert Strauss is one of those natural born storytellers who can turn "hello" into an essay that is filled with funny anecdotes that will keep you laughing far after he's done. In this book about the trials and tribulations of watching his daughters -- Ella and Sylvia -- grow up and play sports, particularly basketball, the sport he loves most, Strauss is at his insightful, amusing and whimsical best.
As a sports writer for 19 years I can tell you that many "sports" books fail to connect with readers who can never really relate to the physical or mental abilities it takes to succeed at a high level. But this ain't one of those books. "Goalie" grabs at your heart right from the beginning and the stories Strauss tells about Ella, Sylvia, himself and his wife Sue are nothing if not poignant. If don't get a lump to your throat reading this book, you've never been the parent of a child playing sports, never reveled in their success, never felt the paranoia and anger and agony of watching them ride the bench, never dried their tears after a heartbreaking loss.
Get this book. Give it as a gift to your dad, or your uncle, or someone who has made a difference in your life. They'll love it and they'll love you all the more.
Daddy's Little Goalie: A Father, His Daughters, and Sports OverviewThe National Federation of High School Associations estimates that approximately 3.1 million girls participate in high school sports. Daddy's Little Goalie, written by professional sports writer Robert Strauss, is about a new generation of fathers who are nurturing their daughters as girl jocks throughout their years of schooling. In Daddy's Little Goalie, Strauss shares an invitingly poignant and humorous collection of anecdotes about the father/daughter sporting dynamic based on his own experiences with his daughters, Ella and Sylvia. Proud dads, been-there moms, and sporting daughters alike will recognize themselves in Strauss's stories. From the pride inspired by a daughter's first left-handed layup to the shin-kicking action on the soccer field, Daddy's Little Goalie is not a primer on how to raise the next Venus or Serena Williams, but about the normal run of girl jockdom and the important role of the father/daughter relationship in sports--and life.
