I thought this was a great book for both kids and adults to look through and find activities. I found it had a variety of activities to do in a large 16 county area. I think this is the perfect guide for the parent who like to do weekend activities with the kids. For me its simply choose a place to go and find something interesting to do there. And trust me, there are plenty of choices! This is an escpecially helpful book for kids 2-12. I easily give this book the full 5 Amazon stars for excellent research, easy to use layout, variety of choices, wide selection of locations, and knowledge of what families want. So if your a parent looking for a guide for where to bring your kids, buy this book. Paris for Free (or Extremely Cheap), Revised (For Free Series) ReviewThose who complain about this book being out of date are missing the point of this resource. It's true that it is out of date as far as the money system is concerned, but the information that it is most useful for will never be out of date - all the major tourist attractions, but more importantly, many little known yet equally wonderful sights. If you're looking for secrets to get something cheap, you'll be disappointed. It is europe, and with the exchange rate being what it is, everything's expensive, and this book is not going to get you around that (although there are many good money saving tips). It's also not for those who want to be dazzled with pictures, which are few and far between, and black and white at that. However, this is one of the best resources for finding all of the hidden gems that comprise Paris, especially for return visitors who wish to see more than just the tourist's city.
The book outlines, arrondissement by arrondissement, every landmark and point of interest that you can imagine, from the major tourist sites to shopping districts, "cheap" stores, tourist offices and more. What it is best for is calling to attention some obscure details about buildings that you may otherwise pass by, not knowing that you are missing a real treasure inside.
I have been traveling to Paris yearly for more than ten years and know the city well. This is still one of the best resources for "discovering" Paris that I have ever found, and even after years of visits, I still occasionally look to this book to find something "new" to discover.
For the first time visitor who has limited time in the city, this book may not be for you, although it does give many helpful hints on how to avoid lines and/or find the easiest means of entrance to a particular attraction. Another plus is that it is written in simple language and clearly outlines the address, metro stop (including line #), and hours. If you are looking to completely discover Paris, this is the book for you, as it will point out and explain every beautiful and noteworthy feature of this incredible city.Paris for Free (or Extremely Cheap), Revised (For Free Series) Overview

Lonely Planet Tokyo (City Guide) ReviewI found the previous edition of the Lonely Planet Tokyo city guide handy as an independent traveler. Unfortunately, the new edition appears to be a reformatted version of the 2006 edition, rather than an update.
For example:
pp. 62-63 - The guide bizarrely claims that the Ghibli Museum is located in Ginza, when it is in fact located in a western suburb of Tokyo (the correct information appears on p. 112).
p. 64 - The guide fails to note that the hours for tourists to visit the Tsukiji fish market have been officially restricted since April 2008. Incredibly, the lead author of the guide wrote in his blog about this very issue in April 2008 (http://www.gadling.com/2008/04/05/big-in-japan-tokyos-top-tourist-attraction-is-limiting-access/) - so he certainly knows about the new rules.
p. 125 - The hours for the Edo Tokyo Museum - apparently copied from the previous edition without the editors verifying them - are wrong and have been so for at least a year.
p. 242 - The guide describes Passnet cards as an option for train and subway travel. Passnet cards haven't been sold since January 2008 and haven't worked since March 2008.
Much as I would like to give the new edition of the guide a more positive review, I can't do so; a shiny new cover doesn't offset the unrevised content.
